Physical Education is a valuable subject, which we teach through a variety of activities. Children, as they develop, are able to learn traditional sports such as athletics, netball, football, rounders, etc., but also other activities such as dance, gymnastics and swimming. All children are expected to play a full and active part, at their own level, in this area of the curriculum and staff work hard to promote full involvement and enjoyment. We have a national Activemark Award in recognition of our work in this area and achieve some local success in competitions, especially Cross Country and swimming. We have recently been awarded the Outstanding Schools Sporting Achievement Award by the Evening Gazette.
Competitiveness is of course inevitable and we encourage this, by giving children chance to excel in many areas. However we plan a variety of sporting opportunities and we endeavour to help all children to find something that they enjoy and can be good at. We have fostered good links with several local sports clubs and work closely with Laurence Jackson Sports College in developing children’s sport.
